IRISH SESSIONS1st and 3rd Sundays 8:00 - 11:00pm 1st Sundays: TUNE LEARNING SESSION 3rd Sundays: REGULAR SESSION TUNE LEARNING SESSIONThe purpose of this is to enable more people to learn tunes in common which in time will strengthen the Irish session community. Sessions are always the most fun when several people join in the tunes, not just a single player running through tunes that no one else knows. We have compiled sets of tunes from volumes 1,2, and 3 of the "Tunes for the T.I.M.E.S." created by the O'Flaherty's Irish Music Retreat. Special thanks to O'Flaherty's for their permission to use their materials. The CDs will be given out for free in the shop or at our sessions and the sheet music for the tunes can be downloaded for free on the O'Flaherty's website at http://www.oflahertyretreat.org/resources.htmThe CD has tunes played regular tempo on the odd numbered tracks and played slowly on the even numbered tracks. COME BY AND PICK UP A FREE CD
At the teaching sessions we will progress in order through the CD. We'll do two (maybe three) tunes each time. The tunes are presented REALLY SLOW, phrase by phrase until everyone has at least a rough grasp of the tune to work on at home. Then we'll spend some time playing over the previously taught tunes and just having an easy session. Remember: This is a learning session, so it's totally ok to do things that probably would not work in a real session, such as playing tunes many, many times or working through tunes that you don't quite have polished yet. How else are you going to learn?Check back here to find out in advance what tunes will be covered and you can go over them ahead of time. You will get a lot more out of the teaching session if you already are familiar with the tunes.
