2011 Ellis F5 Special Fern in excellent condition. Minimal signs of use that require very close scrutiny to notice.

This is an incredible F5 mandolin from one of the greatest builders of our time, and it both looks and sounds the part! The tone is wide open with a large, powerful voice that incorporates just the right mixture of woody/fundamental character with beautiful depth and complexity. Incredibly balanced across the strings as well as up and down the fretboard, the mandolin simultaneously produces crisp cutting power and warmth with every note. It responds wonderfully to a light touch but loses nothing when played with a more aggressive right hand technique. The feel and playability are very comfortable and the mandolin plays beautifully in all positions with no issues whatsoever. We acquired this instrument from the original owner, a good friend of the shop, who purchased it new in 2011. It has never left the Austin area and has been meticulously cared for over the past 12 years.

Adirondack spruce top, Sugar maple back/sides/neck, one piece back, varnish finish, full fern headstock inlay (beautiful coloration), ebony fretboard with pearl position markers, Ellis made ebony "full contact" adjustable bridge, full triple binding, triple bound ebony pick guard, gold Waverly tuners with pearl buttons, gold engraved James tailpiece, adjustable truss rod with ebony cover, ebony endpin with pearl eye, radiused fretboard, 1-1/8" bone nut. Comes with a nice oblong tweed hardshell case that is original to the instrument.
